Micarta (H26000)

Micarta® is a thermoset industrial laminate which is made by applying heat and pressure to layers of paper, linen, canvas or glass cloth which have been impregnated with either phenolic or epoxy resins. This heat and pressure causes a chemical reaction which transforms the separate layers into a single laminated material which cannot be softened, hence ‘thermoset’.

Micarta® laminates exhibit very high physical strength, resiliency, ease of fabrication, and excellent electrical properties - they are superb insulators.

Micarta® is strong when compared to other thermoplastics, and has high impact and compressive strengths. It’s easy to saw, tap, drill and machine with standard tools, as it doesn’t soften on re-heating.

Paper-based phenolics are the most economical laminate, yet provide good electrical and mechanical properties. Cotton-fabric has greater strength and machining versatility, while glass-based grades have the best dimensional stability and mechanical strength.

Micarta® carbon fibre and composite laminates, utilising an epoxy resin system, offer impressive properties over a wide range of humidity conditions and thermal variations.
